Faces of Chengdu, Faces of Europe
In 2024, the Chengdu-Europe Cultural Season grandly kicked off, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the opening of the German Consulate General in Chengdu. A series of key exhibitions were launched successively in Chengdu.
Curated and organized by InterCulture, the contemporary art exhibition "Faces of Chengdu, Faces of Europe" officially opened at Sanlian Taofen Bookstore in Chengdu Kuanzhai Alleys.
Curated by Dr. Jasmin Gong, the exhibition presented a dual-artist collaboration featuring renowned German artist Carsten Sander and famous Chinese photographer Xiao Quan.
Based on portrait photography and contemporary art, the exhibition focuses on four core themes: face, city, humanity and memory, launching a spiritual cultural dialogue between the East and Europe.
During the exhibition, live performances were presented by East-West Jazz Band and Polish pianist Katarzyna Borek, with official instrument support provided by Bluthner Piano.
Integrating art, image and music, the event created an immersive cultural exchange atmosphere between two cities.
Taking portraits as the starting point, the exhibition connects the cultural temperament of Chengdu with the European contemporary art ecology.
Crossing geographical and cultural boundaries, it promotes Sino-European artistic mutual learning, humanistic exchanges and creative cooperation, becoming a benchmark art project of the Chengdu-Europe Cultural Season.
