Introduction:
InterCulture curated the public art exhibition "Happiness Conservation" and the opening ceremony performance for the 2020 Foshan China-Europe Culture Week. Combining various forms of fine and performing arts, the event explored the impact of human behavior on the environment and the relationship between environmental protection and happiness. Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province, Deputy Mayor of Foshan, and Consuls General from six European countries jointly opened the event.
Artist Profiles:
• Marc Schmitz
Marc Schmitz is a German artist living and working in Berlin. As an artist and curator, he works in painting, installation, object, video, and land art. His artworks have been exhibited worldwide, collected by private and public institutions, and received numerous international honors. He is the founder of the Mongolia Land Art Biennale and has served as its artistic director since 2010.
• Yuan Shun
Born in Shanghai in 1961, Yuan Shun graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the PLA Academy of Art in 1983. He was a tutor at the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy. His works include photography, installation, video, and performance art. Trained in Chinese painting, his military experience also plays an important role in his creations. Most of his works focus on themes of landscape, city, and architecture—creating models of landscapes, integration of nature, traces of human intervention, and surreal elements, which he photographs or integrates into video installations.
